For sale is an original blue version moss starlet 1 or 2 person, 3 season tent. This tent was made in camden, maine and is labeled “moss tentworks 1979″ according to the tag in the tent though the catalog page at (google: moss images tent – then check first search result) says the starlet is “new for ‘83″.

The tent is a perfect example of the fantastic moss quality and workmanship, as well as the artistic aspect bill moss included in his designs. The starlet offers fantastic 360 degree views on clear starry nights with the fly off with the mesh all around the top. If you have the fly on, you have the ability to shelter yourself from any rain and wind that it can encounter. The netting on this tent makes it a wonderful tent for those hot sticky nights with the ventilation that it allows.

This original version of the starlet does not have the vestibule of the later models. It is a one man tent and using it as a solo there is plenty of room for your gear, but it could handle 2 adults in a pinch if they are comfortable with snuggling up. The tent weighs 3 pounds even and the stakes, poles and bags weigh 1 pound 10 oz for a grand total of 4 pounds 10 ounces.

Not bad for a tent from 30 years ago! This tent does have some issues with the condition. There are 4 small repairs to the mesh, shown in the last 3 photos. There is a little spotting and some slight delamination on the door.

The blue floor has faded a little in the back and has slightly tinted a some of the lighter fabrics. None of the tent fabrics are sticky, just a little tinted or faded. The rain fly is in excellent condition with no holes, repairs or stickiness, though the blue pole sleeves have tinted it a little where they make contact. That does not affect performance whatsoever. Considering the fly and the repairs to the mesh, this tent will hold out the water and the bugs on your outings.
The zippers are in great working condition. You will not find many tents of this age, period, let alone in good working condition. Included in the sale are the tent, rain fly, easton aluminum poles and stakes. All of the original blue bags are with the tent. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.
