Overall, a very nice tent, in great shape, and looks lightly used. There are a few very tiny holes in screen, and the tent has that peculiar “old tent” odor, but otherwise is in very good condition. In our experience, the “old tent” smell is improved with airing, sunshine, careful washing, and use. Typical dust, dirt, debris, marks (but not a lot of that). Comes with instructions, some lines, and two carry bags. Carry bags have large (but not obtrusive) marker writing from previous owner, and (as usual) show some wear and tear, but function well, still. Please view all enlarged pictures for further details. We set up all tents and check them for functionality and major cosmetic issues, but may show signs of use such as dirt or debris from setting up, fabric discoloration, spotting, odors. Introduced in 1979, The North Star is a 4 season, double wall dome designed with the features and strength needed for expedition and base camp in extreme conditions. It will accommodate 4 adults closely, 6 in an absolute pinch….. In addition to a zippered main entrance, the tent has double snow tunnels backed with bug netting that provide cross ventilation in the warmer months. The North Star is also a very pleasant tent for family camping. Six equal length 183 shock corded Easton aluminum poles and 2 short aluminum awning supports. 3, 10″ aluminum struts help to maintain the “dead air space (separation) between the rainfly and canopy. 1.9 ounce ripstop nylon canopy and full coverage rainfly. Polyurethane coated taffeta nylon floor, lower sidewalls, entrance panel and snow tunnels. 10 additional guy line pullouts on the rainfly for high wind and snow load conditions. Has 6 inside gear pockets. Tunnel design cook/disposal hole built into the floor. Seams on the floor and rainfly were not previously sealed. A blank slate for you to do the job. No old, flaking sealer to clean up. Approximate Weights: Poles 2lbs, 6oz – Main Body 7lbs, 8oz – Rain Fly 3lbs, 12oz. 58.25 sq feet of interior floor space. Condition: I have completed a thorough inspection throughout and assess the tent to be in very good used condition. The colors on the main canopy are bright with very little sun fading. The outer rainfly is a TNF replacement and is in near new condition. The poles are without splits or kinks and are not deformed beyond what is consistent with use and normal shaping to the dome curvature. Zippers run smoothly. A common issue in older tents is the deterioration of the polyurethane waterproof coating applied to the lower sidewalls, floor and rainfly. It is not sticky or peeling and continues to provide full waterproofing. There are no funky, old tent odors. Restoration: The interior floor and the pole sleeves needed some minor repair to bring the tent completely up to snuff: 1 The floor was cleaned and inspected – Several tiny cooking spark holes, scuffs and abrasions were repaired with either dabs of McNett Seam Grip Sealer/Adhesive or the Sealer and nylon taffeta fabric in combination. Usage stains are well set and only minor effort was made at removal. 2 Threading poles through tent sleeves in high winds or darkness isn’t ideal and is best done with 2 persons. Some fabric wear, nicks and several about 1/4″ – 3/4″ in length slits were solidly repaired with Seam Grip, light flat webbing and ripstop repair fabric on the inside and outside of the damage. Arguably strong as new and good to go. As TNF cautions, a small measure of care is needed when threading poles through the sleeves of any tent with light weight fabric. To avoid damage, flex the poles as they are being threaded through the pole sleeves. 3 On the main entrance netting, there were a few tiny pulls. Nothing much was needed but non-the-less they were reinforced with dabs of Seam Grip. Netting is in mint condition at the tunnel entrances. 4 I have freshly sealed the center , floor cross seam. Final 4 photo’s show typical wear and the repairs. Last picture is the interior floor. The tent is entirely ready for use. L. L. Bean 6-Person Geodesic Dome Tent

Bean tent that is in really good condition, especially for its age. The bag that it comes in has the date, 1990, printed on it.

This tent really has a lot of life left in it. As you can see from the pictures, it is a geodesic dome style. It has the instruction manual, bag for the tent, bag for the stakes, and a bag for the poles. The poles are aluminum, not fiberglass, and they are all there and intact. It also has 4 poles for the small overhang above both doors. I measured the footprint, which is 12′ x 9′. It’s also 6’2 in the center. The entire top of the dome is mesh, this = great ventilation. The zippers all still work great. It has two doors on opposite sides of the tent, each with a window.
There are some minor cosmetic blemishes, one is that the floor inside the tent looks like it has been wrinkled and has left little white “stress” marks. Also, the seam tape on the inside floor has seperated slightly in some areas (see photo where you can also see the white marks). My wife and i just camped in this last month. The first night, it rained… All night, and into the morning.
There were no problems with leakage at all. Not on top, not underneath, we stayed dry. Water still beads up on the rainfly. It is missing some small things though, 4 of the metal stakes to stake it in the ground, and 3 guy lines (nylon rope). It only takes my wife and i 10 minutes to put it up, including staking it out.
