Vintage 1970s North Face TNF Ring Oval Intention Original Geodesic Dome Tent

Please note this is a used, 50 year old tent. If you’re viewing this you probably know that it is more of a collector’s item than a daily use tent at this point (usable although not waterproof). It has several issues from age and use. Please read carefully and refer to photos. One medium pole is cracked at the connection point but functional as you can see in the pictures. Should probably wrap to prevent it from catching on tent body. Four season TNF tents are guaranteed for life so you may be able to obtain a replacement. Significant delamination of tent interior and underside of rain fly which render the material non waterproof at this point. Entire interior floor is delaminating as well entire underside of rainfly. Rain fly tie down clips are rusted. Pole insert sleeves are marked in black marker with S, M, and L to note which poles to use at each position. Several small holes in the bug netting. Discoloration of tent body along the bottom 12 or so (fading). Some areas of discoloration or staining on tent body and rain fly. All that said, the tent is functional and in fairly good condition for it’s age. All ring attachment points included. No major damage or repairs to tent body, floor, screens, or rain fly. The stakes and tie outs pictured are honestly terrible (stakes very bent) but I can’t recall if they are original to the tent or not so I will include them. Please ask any questions.

Vintage North Face Ring Oval Intention Tent 1975 77 Backpack Mountaineering

This North Face Ring Oval Intention Tent is in fine overall condition. It is complete (including all factory publications, extra stakes & line) and fully intact as from the factory; nothing is broken. It does need the floor and seams resealed on the tent and fly. The old bagged tent smell is present, but there is no mold, mildew or stains. Floor does have a few small stains and abrasions but no holes. It is 6′ x 9′ x 4.5′ tall at the peak. All plus or minus a few inches depending on how it is staked. He total weight is around 10.5 pounds. Please view all 12 photos in order to confirm condition, and ask questions if need be. North Face Pole Sleeve Oval Intention Tent Second Generation 1979 1980

Second generation North Face “Pole Sleeve” Oval Intention Tent. Good overall shape for a 40 year old tent. It’s all there including the original pitching instructions. It has a few “freckles” in the roof of the tent from dew off of the trees (see the last pic). One panel on the fly between the front door and right window was repaired/replaced by North Face years ago with a slightly different fabric. Stored dry and loosely, very little coating deterioration. Vintage The North Face Ring Oval Intention

The North Face Ring, Oval Intention. Offering for sale – A well used yet still very functional and lovely Ring Oval Intention. Introduced in 1975 and considered to be the first geodesic back packing tent. In 2 years time, the rings were replaced with pole sleeves and the tent became known as……… The Pole Sleeve Oval Intention. 3 person, 4 season double wall elongated geodesic dome. Weight is about 10 pounds. Condition From Its Use. The lower exterior sidewalls upward to the fly are weather faded and have well set “splash up” dirt stains. The colors of the canopy beneath the rainfly are still fairly bright and unfaded as may be seen in the photographs. The polyurethane coating on the interior floor and sidewalls has intermittently cracked and peeled throughout but what remains seems stable and can’t be scraped off with a fingernail. This residual coating is not sticky and there is no mold, mildew or old tent odor. It is clean and arguably because the remaining polyurethane is stable and there is no mildew odor, the floor is ready to be recoated and seam sealed. Otherwise, the tent could be used with a waterproof ground sheet within when conditions are wetter. The fly waterproofing has withstood time and use much better. It is largely intact and unpeeled but definitely weakened and may need a recoat or at the least an application of DWR. The rainfly coating is not sticky. I washed the tent in Woolite and did not notice any further delamination or coating residue in the water. There is (1) 1″x2″ nylon patch on the interior floor. 2 pole rings have been replaced. The no-see-em netting on the windows and door is in good shape. I do not see any damage. An entire replacement pole set has been provided by The North Face and used for 1 night.
