We have had the Skylar manufactured to our specifications, and tweaked and fine-tuned to be as practical and user friendly as possible. We would describe the Skylar as a summer, 2/3 season tent due to its all bug mesh inner tent, and its certainly not a tent you would want to be camping in during the winter months. That said, the silicone-coated flysheet with its 3000mm HH will hold off all the weather the UK summer months can throw at it. The Skylar employs a small alloy pole to hold up the foot end of the tent, and one walking pole is required to hold up the head end. If you walk or hike with poles, and an ultra-lightweight tent is a necessity, then our Skylar tent could be just the thing for you. The Skylar features one large side entrance. The Skylar is a true double skin tent, with an inner nylon bug-mesh tent that can be used without the outer flysheet should conditions warrant it, i. On those very hot, balmy summer nights. Ventilation is provided by a high air vent at the head end of the tent along with a low air vent at the foot end to allow air flow and help reduce condensation. With a tent this small and this lightweight, there will always be compromises, so similar to our Whisper tent, this is a no frills, no bells and whistles tent. The Skylar really is a specialist tent for the experienced backpacker who understands the compromises that need to be made in order to achieve the lightest possible weight. And indeed in order to achieve such a light weight, the tent has to be small and compact, and while our Skylar serves its purpose adequately in that it is a perfectly waterproof shelter to sleep in, internal space is at a premium. So, if you are over 6ft or have a large frame and like a spacious tent with room to move about and stretch your arms out, then this tent is really not for you. Perhaps look at our much roomier 1.3 kg Whisper tent instead. I should also add that this tent can be a little tricky to pitch just right, not least because the inner tent and flysheet share 5 pegging points. The flysheet pegging points are on guyline runners, so adjustable, but a little patience is required to get tensions just right in order to have a nice taut outer flysheet without the inner sagging too much, which is one reason why would suggest that this is a tent for the more experienced camper. If however you are looking to move up from the confines of a bivvy bag, then our Skylar tent could be absolutely ideal as, though its a small and compact tent, it still provides far more space than any bivvy bag can, and for very little (if any) weight increase. The Skylar is yet another lightweight solo tent to complement our other one and two person tents, with the main priority of this tent being its ultra-lightweight. The nylon bug mesh inner tent is erected first, with the short bottom pole located in its dedicated top and bottom metal eyelets, and with a walking pole inserted into the pocket at the apex we suggest an initial height of 125cm. Ground level to top of handle. Two of the guylines are required to hold up the inner tent at this point – one at the foot end, the other attached to the strap below the walking pole pocket at the head end. The outer flysheet is then draped over the inner tent and pegged out accordingly, with five of the pegging points doubling up with the inner tent floor pegging points. Additional flysheet guylines are attached and also pegged out to provide a nice taut shape. In line with our other tents, the Skylar’s seams are double-stitched and tape sealed. The Skylar is not free-standing – that is, it requires pegging out to remain upright, so would not be suitable for pitching on rocky terrain. The tent comes with six guylines with nice Line-Lok guyline tensioners for ease of use. Two guylines are for holding erect the inner tent, with an additional four guylines for the flysheet. With its extremely small pack size and ultra-light weight, we feel that the Skylar will make a great solo tent for any backpacker whose number one priority is to reduce the overall weight of their pack. NOW IN STOCK: STATION13 Backpacker Tent Our NEW Backpacker tent is basically a non-camouflage version of the very popular GeerTop BLAZER tent. Due to constant enquiries for the GeerTop BLAZER with a less military look, we have had GeerTop manufacture a non-camouflage version of the BLAZER tent especially for us. The size specifications of our new STATION13 Backpacker tents are identical in all respects to the original GeerTop BLAZER tents, with a few minor differences, though most are just cosmetic. As far as the cosmetic differences go, they are: the colour of the flysheet (Olive Drab Green), the colour of the tent poles (anodised in green), and the inclusion of Hi-Vis reflective guylines. The non-cosmetic differences being that the flysheet and bathtub floor of our new Backpacker tents have a slightly superior hydrostatic head (HH) of 3000mm, compared to the GeerTop Blazer’s all round 2500mm. While the camouflage GeerTop BLAZER tent is great for stealth or wild camping, the. Military look is not for everyone, so our Backpacker tent with its all round Olive Drab Green colour will potentially appeal to more people. Of course, the Olive Drab Green flysheet is itself a stealthy colour, so should you decide to wild camp, then just switching out the reflective guylines for something less noticeable would be all that is needed. T his Backpacker tent comes with 12 x aluminium candy cane hex tent pegs as standard, however, we’ve included additional guylines and a further 3 x red anodised needle tent pegs for these guylines. For some reason GeerTop do not include the two flysheet foot end guylines, and only include 12 tent pegs. Now, strictly speaking, you may not need to use the foot end flysheet guylines or the additional tent pegs, and they do push the total weight up by around 30 grams, but we have included them so they are there if you decide you need them. All modern lightweight tents feature a lightweight flooring fabric, and though it can be made extremely waterproof, it is less resilient, hence potentially more susceptible to damage by sharp implements – thorns, stones, etc. Than the thicker, heavier materials employed by tents of old. I always use my polythene emergency survival bag as an additional groundsheet if I’m camping on unfavourable ground, and for this purpose it works extremely well. However if I did not have this, for peace of mind, I would surely employ an additional lightweight groundsheet for the extra protection it would offer to my lightweight tent floor. Compared to both the TOPWIND 1 and the PYRAMID tents that we also supply, the Backpacker tent is a lower profile tent with a slightly smaller pitch size. While this means that the Backpacker can be pitched in places too small for the TOPWIND 1 or PYRAMID tents, this does also mean that there is not any practical storage space for a rucksack inside the tent underneath the flysheet. While this is unlikely to be a problem for the minimalist camper who only carries a small to medium size backpack which can be taken inside the tent itself, larger people with very large packs might find it a bit tight and prefer to leave their pack outside under a rain cover. That said, this tent is actually quite spacious, with a very decent size floor plan for a lightweight one man tent, and t here is certainly space inside to sleep with your pack inside with you. And, from my experience on a 10-day camping trip in Wales, I would say that a modern rucksack up to around 50 litres would be comfortable to sleep with inside the tent – I actually had a 65+15 litre rucksack in the tent with me and I’m 5’11 and 16stones… Not ideal, but I managed! And of course, the most important thing when backpacking, is weight, and this little tent only weighs 1.54kg! Given its small pitch size, this tent does have a surprisingly spacious interior – in fact it far exceeded our expectations. There is room to move around and. Ue to the steep sides of the inner tent. Lengthwise it will accommodate taller people up to around 6’4. For a small, 1 man tent, the Backpacker is a deceptively spacious tent – a bit like Dr Who’s TARDIS! The sewn-in bathtub floor measures 213cm x 101cms at its widest, with the floor width narrowing to around 50cm at the foot end, and with an inner tent height of 91cms at its highest point. Two aluminium alloy tent poles nicely hold the tents shape. This little tent features quality 8mm, ProFlex 7001-T6 aluminium alloy tent poles; these tent poles are shock-corded, strong and flexible, and anodised in green. Unlike many tents of this size and nature, the Backpacker is a true double-skin, 3 season tent. The outer flysheet and the bathtub floor is made from 210T waterproof, PU-coated polyester, UV protected and with a hydrostatic head of 3000mm, while the inner tent is 210T breathable polyester with full high density nylon no-see-um bug mesh doors and end panels. The bathtub floor is 210T PU-coated polyester, also with a 3000mm hydrostatic head. All seams are taped to provide a fully waterproof seal at the stitching. The tent is double stitched throughout with reinforced box stitching at any potential stress points. The Backpacker is a two entrance. Tent, with a high air vent at the head end and fully adjustable venting at the foot end, allowing for excellent air flow and ventilation. This tent offers something a little different to all of our other tents, in that it is an end entrance tent. Now, not everyone likes end entrance tents, but some people do actually prefer them because they do tend to provide an area for cooking, so now we have a tent with this option… And this is a very nice tent. At just under 2.2kg with a pack size of 43cm x 16cm, we will admit that the SAGE is not the lightest or most compact backpacking tent, but it is made from more robust materials than you will find on lighter or ultralight tents. The flysheet is strong, UV-protected, PU-coated ripstop polyester with a 3000mm hydrostatic head, which whilst being slightly heavier than equivalent nylon fabrics, it does not tend to sag when wet as does nylon – and this can be a real benefit in inclement weather. The floor is also a quite substantial 210D Oxford weave, PU-coated polyester with a 4000mm hydrostatic head – much more resilient than that offered by tents with lighter and paper thin nylon floors. All seams are double-stitched and taped to provide a waterproof seal. The SAGE can accommodate two people, so can either be used as a cosy two person tent or a very roomy solo tent. With a floor plan of 200cm in length, 130cm wide at the head/entrance end going down to 110cm at the foot end, there is enough floor space for two full size sleeping mats, and room for two small – medium size packs and boots in the vestibule. Though not strictly storage space, the design of this tent does mean that there is also additional space at the sides underneath the flysheet between the flysheet and the inner tent should you need it. Though not readily accessible from inside the tent, the space can still be made use of if necessary (see the floor plan image). Unlike some tents, the full 200cm (6ft 7ins) internal length is usable as the foot end and head end of the inner tent are near vertical. This means that the tent will comfortably accommodate anyone up to around 6ft 4ins. Colour-wise, the SAGE is a Dark Olive Green, and so quite a good tent for discrete or wild camping. With the inner tent being made up solely of high density bug mesh, this is a tent better suited to 2-3 season camping. The bug mesh inner tent has a very respectable ceiling height of 110cm at its centre (so plenty of head room for sitting up in the SAGE) and is permanently attached to the waterproof bathtub floor. You will note that the flysheet on this tent is slightly raised off the ground. This feature, along with two small air vents at the front and rear of the tent allows for good air circulation in order to help minimise condensation. The Inner tent entrance features a two-way zipper, so can be opened and closed from the top or the bottom. The SAGE comes with ten of our very nice V-section aluminium alloy tent pegs and two guylines. There are multiple guyline points, but unless facing adverse weather conditions you are not likely to need them. Initially we guyed out the sides thinking that this would be needed to stop the fly touching the inner tent, but actually there is plenty of space between the two even without these guylines attached. We ultimately used the additional guylines with our walking poles just to set up the awning. The guylines included are black, we think this is because the tent can be used for stealth camping, but we’ve also thrown in a couple of Hi-Vis guylines. The 8.5mm 7001-T6 anodised aluminium alloy pole frame creates a quite spacious interior, with a wide Y-section at the front end entrance and a smaller Y-section at the foot end. The pole sections are all shock-corded together, hence there is effectively only one pole that springs out to completely to form the frame of the tent. The inner tent is erected first and is free-standing once the pole and inner tent clips are located. This means that the inner tent can be used without the flysheet on any very hot summer nights. One thing that sets our SAGE tent slightly apart from similar designs is that the end entrance fully unzips on either side and so can be completely rolled up out of the way over the entrance. This feature also means that the entrance can also be unrolled and used effectively as an awning by employing walking poles – or perhaps even sticks – to hold it up (see photo). This awning can hence provide a conveniently covered/shaded area for cooking. The SAGE is extremely easy and very fast to set up, everything about erecting the SAGE is straight forward and logical, there is nothing that gives you pause for thought. Or your convenience there are instructions to aid erecting the tent sewn into the tent bag… Though it really is very unlikely that you will need them with this tent. Erecting the SAGE: Lay out the inner tent, unfold the tent pole linking the sections together and insert the four pole corners into the four corner metal eyelets on the bathtub floor, clip the inner tent to the pole frame and it’s self-standing, then peg down the four corner points pulling nice and square as you do so. The flysheet is then draped over the frame – make sure that the entrance is at the right end. Four corner points of the flysheet have buckle clips that locate into the corners of the bathtub floor. Two pegs are required to peg out the sides, with a further two pegs for the entrance, There is an internal toggle either side that attaches the flysheet to the inner tent, and two ties on the front end of the flysheet that secure to the front poles. The tent is up and ready to use. Tip: Make sure the entrance zips are fully done up before pegging out. Please note that we can supply a 210cm x 140cm groundsheet to provide additional protection to the bathtub floor of the SAGE if you require it or indeed if you expect to be pitching on extremely suspect ground. NOW IN STOCK: STATION13 Backpacker Tent Our NEW Backpacker tent is basically a non-camouflage version of the very popular GeerTop BLAZER tent. Due to constant enquiries for the GeerTop BLAZER with a less military look, we have had GeerTop manufacture a non-camouflage version of the BLAZER tent especially for us. The size specifications of our new STATION13 Backpacker tents are identical in all respects to the original GeerTop BLAZER tents, with a few minor differences, though most are just cosmetic. As far as the cosmetic differences go, they are: the colour of the flysheet (Olive Drab Green), the colour of the tent poles (anodised in green), and the inclusion of Hi-Vis reflective guylines. All modern lightweight tents feature a lightweight flooring fabric, and though it can be made extremely waterproof, it is much less resilient, hence more prone to damage by sharp implements – thorns, stones, etc. Than the thicker, heavier materials employed by tents of old. I always use my polythene emergency survival bag as an additional groundsheet if I’m camping on unfavourable ground, and for this purpose it works extremely well. However if I did not have this, for peace of mind, I would surely employ an additional lightweight groundsheet for the extra protection it would offer to my lightweight tent floor. Compared to both the TOPWIND 1 and the PYRAMID tents that we also supply, the Backpacker tent is a lower profile tent with a slightly smaller pitch size.
