New from jimmy tarps, the down-timber ultralight shelter. After 26 days of testing in three different wilderness areas in oregon, the down-timber is ready for production. I basically took my sidewize shelter and went back to the drawing board always trying to make improvements. Made from first quality 1.1 ounce sil-nylon material and sewn with gutterman upholstery thread. The pole sleeve is made from x-pac material for durability. The down-timber has an offset center for easy entry and exit. The beak was squared off and the head end of the shelter is slightly raised to enhance airflow and reduce condensation. The down-timber is a much larger shelter than my sidewize, and only weighs around 9-1/8 ounces with stuff sack. Dimensions of the down-timber are roughly 9′ across the back and 11’6 across the front and nearly 8 ‘ wide at the widest point. The down-timber will easily acomadate two people and gear or is the ultimate setup for one plus gear. Folks rest assured jimmy tarps are made right here in oregon by me jimmy. I try to use usa materials with the exception of my thread which is a german made thread which is an industry standard. The down-timber does need seam sealed, there are two seams one around the beak and one on the vestibule that will need seam sealed. I recommend mcnetts sil-net seam sealer, available at most outdoor stores. The down-timber sets up with your trekking pole or a stick set at 48 inches or 120 mm. The down-timber only needs 6 stakes for setup. Trekking pole or stakes are not included. The down-timber works great as an ultralight shelter with a bug bivy or bivy sack or just use a piece of tyvek under your sleeping bag. I just added a picture with the approximate dimensions. These were taken with the shelter set up with a trekking pole set at 48 inches height. It is important to note that the height of the shelter and sides which can be guyed out further could increase square footage. The pictures taken was the recommended setup. As you can see there is plenty of room for two people and all your gear at the foot of the shelter and room to cook at the head of the shelter in the vestibule if needed due to poor weather. The item “ULTRALIGHT DOWN TIMBER 9.5 OZ SIL NYLON FROM JIMMY TARPS” is in sale since Saturday, October 18, 2014.
